Trend Report: Tangerine Tango

Tangerine Tango

Tangerine is the number one "it-color" of 2012. Tangerine is super bright and cheerful for the spring and summer months. It's time to throw away your winter grey's and black's and get ready for spring!

The specific color of tangerine is called "tangerine tango". It is Pantone color 17-1463.

There are two (or maybe three) ways to wear tangerine.
1. Focal Point- wear tangerine as the main piece of your outfit, you'll be sure to draw some eyes. However, the look may be too bold for some people
2. Pop of Color- wear tangerine just in an accessory to be on trend, but not overly bold
3. Color Blocking- this is kind-of in between the other two: it is a pop of color, but is also going to be a main point of your outfit. Check out our post on color blocking here.

Outfit Using Tangerine (2)

This outfit is great for the warmer days in spring. That tangerine dress is so adorable! Wearing it with neutral accessories makes the tangerine really pop. If you aren't a dress girl, just wear a tangerine top or bottom.

Pop of Color (Bag):

The black dress and boots make the super bright purse really stand out. Like in the previous outfit, colors like Pantone's color Starfish look great when paired with tangerine.

Pop of Color (Shoes):

Simple black and white give all of the attention to the adorable heels. This outfit would be really easy to recreate: all you need is a black pencil skirt, white (or off-white, depending on your skin tone) shirt, hoop earrings, and the orange heels (which you would probably not already have).

Color Blocking:

The orange dress and blue bag clash horribly, but in a good way! Even the white flats are sort of in the color blocking theme of the outfit. The dress is doubly trendy because it has a drop waist which is a trend for this spring. The neutral fedora keeps the outfit from being too bright, while still being cute.

How-To-Rock-It: Color Blocking

Color blocking has been in for a while now, but it still remains a hard look to pull off.
Designer: Gucci
To pull off color blocking there are a few things that you need to remember: less is more, opposing or complementary colors, little texture. and harsh lines.

To explain, when I say "less is more" I mean that color blocking tends to look better when there are only a few different colors.

When there are too many different colors in your outfit, it looks much too busy. Stick to only having three different colors. If you do not want to have a full color blocking outfit, you can have one piece that is "pre-color blocked":

Another hard thing to know is what colors to wear when you are color blocking. You do not want your colors to be clashing, but sometimes that look can work for you if it is done right.
The orange and blue are not quite opposites, but are far apart.

When choosing colors, you either want colors in the same family(ex. pink and red), or you want them to be farther apart (ex. orange and purple)

Spring 2012 Fashion Trends

1. Tangerine
Just like in the spring nail polish trends, tangerine is on trend for spring. Pantone has named "Tangerine Tango" the color of 2012. This bright red-orange is super bright and will cheer up any outfit.
Designers: Sophie Theallet, Steven Alan, Doo-Ri
If you aren't comfortable wearing a solid tangerine top, bottom, or dress, that's no problem. Try just sneaking a tangerine accent into your outfit, that way you won't have a super bright, our-of-your-comfort-zone outfit, but you can still have an on-trend outfit.
Try: Tangerine Earrings, Bags, or Shoes
Look out for a full post on how to wear tangerine(and other trends in this post) in the near future!
